Northfield Academy Transition Project 2
“I love art with Avenue it’s so good”. “I felt really nervous about Northfield but I feel better now” “I actually really love this (activity). It’s so calming I wanna do it at home” “I’m most looking forward to making new friends”.
The CashBack team were invited back to Northfield Academy to help deliver the second transition project delivering 12-weeks of creative activities for P7 transitioning to S1. This project was aimed at a group of young people put forward by Northfield’s associated schools who were thought would benefit from this creative enhanced transition. Engaging in the sessions was aimed to enhance their confidence in the new environment and making them feel more comfortable with the change of school.
The goal before the summer was to familiarise the young people with the school building, what support is there and building friendships with their peers, increasing the comfort and confidence in moving from primary to secondary school. The project included sessions such as creative deep mapping where the participants would explore the school and map pattern and textures to create a collaborative piece.
After summer, the sessions were used to focus on exploring emotions surrounding the change and provide tools for expressing feelings that arose. By participating in the activities, the young people were further supported through the process of moving and empowered with tools to explore emotions that may arise.
