Youth Horizons Summer Programme
“This is one of the most fun things I’ve done. It makes up for not getting to do any other stuff through the holidays.”
This summer, Avenue partnered with Aberdeen City Centre Youth Partnership (CCYP) for their Youth Horizons Summer Programme. The aims of the project were to “increase opportunities and activities which will help toward improving health and well-being and divert young people from risky behaviours”. We delivered a series of four fun, interactive creative workshops designed to spark imagination, boost confidence, and provide meaningful, hands-on experiences for young people.
The sessions took place at Rosemount Community Centre offering a programme of sign-up sessions in Paper Marbling, Screen Printing tote bags with Posca pens, Gelli Printing, and Plaster Relief, each tailored to be accessible, engaging, and rewarding for participants of all experience levels. Every young person who took part completed finished pieces to take home and expressed pride and satisfaction in what they had created. The workshops allowed participants to learn new creative skills and offered opportunities for connection, wellbeing, and personal growth in a relaxed, inclusive environment. One young person said: “It’s so nice to do something with your hands. I like art – it’s so relaxing and good for your mental health.” And a parent also shared: “My daughter and her friend took part in the summer programme doing the bag printing and loved it.”This collaborative project not only introduced young people to new creative techniques but also offered a space where they felt valued, inspired, and part of something positive over the summer break.
