Bramble Brae Primary School
“She has really benefited from joining the group and has shown such pride in the wall mural project. Her confidence has grown and is more positive in her engagements in school.”
Bramble Brae Primary School and Avenue partnered up with Barnardo’s to provide fun, creative art sessions for a group of primary 6 and 7 pupils through Avenue’s CashBack Connecting Through Creativity Project. During the twelve-week project, the group were introduced to different art processes which included: paper marbling, printmaking and ceramics. Each week the Creative Practitioners presented different topics and themes during the sessions. The sessions were developed to explore positive frameworks for relationships in their personal lives, which aimed to improve confidence and develop communication skills. Exploring a range of issues including trust, relationship building, emotional literacy, and positive ways to work through difficult feelings.
A large proportion of the project focused on creating a welcoming wall mural at the front of the school for all to see. Pupils collectively came together to develop the design and selected colours which represented Bramble Brae, offering a welcoming atmosphere to the school and passers-by. During the wall mural development, the group considered mapping and composition, they looked at pattens and shapes inspired by their local surroundings and what colours best represented a welcoming, happy space.
A massive thank you to all the young people who participated in the project, and for creating such an inspiring wall mural for everyone to enjoy. Hopefully this will welcome pupils, staff, and the community for years to come.
