Quarrier’s Aberdeenshire Residential
” I want to frame this and put it up when we get home.”
” I find this so relaxing, I could spends hours doing it.”
One of Avenue’s first CashBack Connecting Through Creativity Projects engagements with young people took place in partnership with Quarriers Aberdeenshire. Creative Practitioners were invited to attended Quarriers annual summer weekend residential at The Burn, in Brechin, 2023. This residential trip was designed to provide families and young people with an opportunity to relax, reconnect and have fun together while also having extra support for their cared for family members.
Over the course of three days, Creative Practitioners got to meet and know the young people taking part in the residential. This was achieved through engaging the young people in creative art sessions which involved: badge making, sun printing and hammer printing with plants. During the art workshops, Creative Practitioners took the young people on forest walks with their family members, allowing them to engage in nature and connect with their surroundings, while also collecting natural materials to work with during the activities. Through engaging in Avenues CashBack art sessions, many young people expressed their enjoyment and excitement at getting to try out new ways in which to express themselves creatively, while also getting to connect and make new friendships and bond further with family members through socialising in the art sessions.
