Touch of Love at Tullos Community Centre
“this has helped me develop some new skills which is gonna help me in life.”
Over the course of two weeks, the Touch of Love group took part in a series of creative, confidence-building summer sessions delivered by Avenue. The programme was designed to offer a fun, supportive space where young people could try new things, connect with others, and feel good about what they created. The group embraced every activity, from paper marbling and messy art games that encouraged teamwork, to making personal sketchbooks that gave space for quiet reflection and expression. Designing and screen printing their own T-shirts gave participants a real sense of pride and ownership, while plaster sculpture and Gelli printing introduced exciting, hands-on techniques that encouraged creative risk-taking. Along with new practical skills these sessions helped to foster community connection and a strong sense of belonging.
Young people supported and encouraged one another, forming positive relationships in a welcoming and inclusive environment. One participant shared: “This has given me an opportunity to see some of my friends during the summer holidays, and I think that it’s been a great experience for it to be in the summer holidays.”Others reflected on how valuable it felt to be actively engaged: “It’s better than me sitting at home watching TV.” The warm, consistent energy brought by facilitators played a key role in the group’s positive experience. As one staff member shared: “I truly appreciate the way you and your team brought so much energy, humour, and warmth into each session. It’s been wonderful seeing how comfortable and cool the young people feel engaging in the activities.” Another added: “The young people absolutely loved the sessions; your humour, warmth and calm made them feel so at ease, and it really showed in how they encouraged one another and dived into the activities.” The project not only brought creativity and fun to the summer break but created a space where young people felt seen, supported, and inspired.
